The tour From Spain to Marrakech

The tour From Spain to Marrakech

The tour of the Mediterranean: From Spain to Marrakech

Here we are in our final destination: Marrakech, Morocco. It’s hard to believe that it’s been six weeks and 3 countries since Adam and I left our home. On our journey to discover the Mediterranean.

We started our adventure in the charming towns of Spain, Surprised in our way by the coastlines of Greece, and led us through the souks of Turkey and Tunisia. We have noticed many similarities between these destinations, like buildings, culture and people. The way we’ve connected with incredible local women who’ve shared their unique perspectives on their countries, giving us deeper insight into the interconnectedness of this diverse region.

First Impressions of Marrakech

The first step in Marrakech is about discovering a new world of painting, an explosion of sounds, colors, and special smells. It's a unique kind of energy that’s both fresh and emotional. Our first stop was of course the famous iconic Jemaa el-Fna palace, where magic happens. We took pictures with food stalls, street performers, and walked through the vendors that were all competing for attention. Adam even had a minor run-in with a motorbike, but he laughed it off like a champ.

Meeting Sara: A Modern Moroccan Artist

We will never forget our meeting with Sara that highlighted our visit to Marrakech, a Moroccan dancer, actress, and model. She's a warrior in a culture that doesn’t always embrace women in the arts. She shared with us her inspiring story of resilience and her mission to represent the modern, creative side of Marrakech while we drank coffee at an amazing rooftop.

Sara also informed us of her passion for the fashion industry and her love for traditional Moroccan crafts, we even explored a concept store with her that showcased designs inspired by Berber culture, it was an amazing mix of tradition and modernity.

The Atlas Mountains discovery

Adam's birthday was during our trip, we decided to celebrate it away from the noise of the city. There is no better than a day of tranquility and spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains near Marrakech. The beauty of the landscape reminded me of California at times. It was the perfect escape from the city and a chance to get deep into Morocco’s natural beauty.

A little discovery of Marrakech’s History

We couldn’t leave without diving into the rich history of Marrakech. A guided tour took us to the stunning Ben Youssef Madrasa, an architectural masterpiece that’s a testament to the city’s vibrant past. Our guide also shared fascinating stories about the city’s role as a trading hub and cultural melting pot over the centuries.

Souks and Stories

Back in Medina, we explored the souks with Sara, who introduced us to the intricate world of Moroccan jewelry. Did you know that each design, whether geometric or floral, tells a story rooted in Berber and Tuareg traditions? It was a humbling reminder of how much history and artistry are woven into everyday life here.

Marrakech has been a whirlwind of emotions, experiences, and discoveries. It’s a city that captivates you with its energy and leaves you yearning for more. As our Mediterranean journey comes to an end, I can’t help but feel grateful for the people we’ve met, the stories we’ve heard, and the memories we’ve made.

See you next time, Marrakech
