Discover the History and Culture of Agadir
Agadir’s story is one of resilience and rebirth. Originally a small fishing village, Agadir grew in importance as a coastal port over the centuries, with a strategic location that attracted both traders and explorers. However, the city faced a major turning point in 1960 when a catastrophic earthquake nearly destroyed it, claiming thousands of lives and leaving much of Agadir in ruins. Following this tragedy, the city was meticulously rebuilt, adopting a modern layout while maintaining its scenic coastal appeal. Today, Agadir stands as a symbol of Moroccan resilience, blending modern architecture with its roots as a historic port, and welcoming visitors with open arms to experience its unique blend of past and present.
Agadir Oufella Ruins
High above Agadir, the Agadir Oufella Ruins are the remains of a 16th-century Kasbah, originally built by the Saadian dynasty to defend the city. Although most of the structure was lost in the 1960 earthquake, visitors can still see parts of the ancient walls and the original entrance inscription, "Fear God and honor the King." Known for its panoramic views, the site offers stunning vistas of Agadir’s coastline and cityscape, especially beautiful at sunset.
Crocoparc Agadir
Crocoparc Agadir is a unique attraction, home to hundreds of Nile crocodiles in a lush, beautifully landscaped setting. Located just outside the city, this park offers visitors a chance to observe these impressive creatures up close in a safe, well-maintained environment. In addition to the crocodiles, Crocoparc features exotic plants, colorful flowers, and themed gardens that add to its appeal as a family-friendly destination. For a memorable experience, visit during feeding times or explore the botanical gardens filled with cactus and tropical plants. Crocoparc Agadir combines wildlife education and natural beauty, making it a fun and educational stop for all ages.
